What is Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan?

Why is it named Self-Reliant India Campaign?

 FM Nirmala Sitharaman has explained very well about why this campaign is named as self-reliant India campaign.

  • She explained that the campaign has been started after a wide and deep consultation with several sections of the society. Also discussions were held at various levels with various ministries upto PMO.
  • Finance Minister also said that, essentially this is to spur the growth and build a self-reliant India.
  • Because of that the whole initiative is therefore called Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-reliant India Campaign).

On 12th May, 2020 PM Narendra Modi announced the economic package and along with the announcement he also stated that:-

  • India today stands at a point where it has to decide become self-reliant. While also supporting the world and other countries in overcoming the challenges that they face.
  • Be “Vocal for Local“. Buy and promote the local products and brands, and also cleared that becoming self-reliant doesn’t means that cut yourself from the entire world. And also said that try to buy Indian products and promote it.

Global brands that exists today were also local once but when people begin supporting them, they became global.

  • PM Narendra Modi ji also stated that the  Production of PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment ), and masks and also ventilators,  has rapidly grown  within these 40 days to an extent.

The vision of Self-Reliant India is based on five pillars. These pillars are mentioned below;

  • Economy that will bring not just incremental change but a quantum jump.
  • Infrastructure that will become modern India’s symbol.

  • Demography that is our strength, and will serve as a source of energy for Self-Reliant India.

As per the economitimes  news reports, the economic package is equals to Pak’s GDP, 5 times Ambani’s wealth, and 17% of total BSE m-cap. Also comparing with other countries announced relief packages, with USA 13%, Japan 12%, and with Australia 10.8%.
